Art & Design students from Highbury College have been finding out what it takes to plan, organise and launch an art exhibition at the Aspex gallery in Portsmouth.

The Level 3 students have not only been involved with exhibiting Maya Ramsay’s new work 'Countless' but have also been inspired to produce their own artwork reacting to the same theme, migration.

Vicky Chapter, Participation and Learning Manager at Aspex, commented: "The students have been extremely enthusiastic and some of the work they have produced is really impressive. We gave the students a very short time frame to produce the artwork which meant it was more reactive and experimental. We wanted them to follow their instinct and it’s been a really good experience for all."

An exhibition of the students’ work will run alongside the main exhibition and opens on the 5 April, marking the end of their two-week placement with the gallery.

Student Tiffany Sevier, added: "All of us have loved the experience and it’s great to work in the gallery atmosphere and with the artist-in-residence. It feels like a professional work space which gives us an insight into life as an artist."

Award winning artist, Mara Ramsey’s new exhibition ‘Countless’ opened on 2 April 2017 and runs until 4 June 2017.
