AI assisted robot on board the new improved TECH:TRUCK

The Solent’s mobile educational and technical roadshow is back on the road – and the technology is even more impressive than before.

Since its launch last year, TECH:TRUCK has already engaged with more than 18,000 children and young people, adults, careers staff and employers, attending more than 100 local schools, community activities and Solent-based events.

It proved a popular attraction at a number of COPC events last year and will be back at our Highbury Campus for the May Open Event.

A collaboration between City of Portsmouth College, South Hampshire College Group, Brockenhurst College, Isle of Wight College, Havant and South Downs College and HTP Apprenticeship College, TECH:TRUCK was initially created with government funding to inspire more young people to follow high technology career paths.

Following additional funding from the Local Skills Improvement Fund, the latest version of the TECH:TRUCK highlights specific career pathways within sectors that the Solent region has pinpointed for development. They include the creative industries, maritime, logistics and health & social care sectors.

Visitors will be able to interact with virtual and augmented reality systems, marine simulation technologies, state of the art lighting and sound programming, robotics and automation equipment, drones, hydrogen-powered race cars and AI-assisted walking, talking robots.

The updated vehicle was unveiled at Sugoi Campers, who carried out the customisation at their premises in Fareham. Among the guests was Fareham Mayor Fred Birkett.

Co-ordinator Jackson Ottley said: “Growing up in Gosport and Portsmouth, it shocked me how little technological industries were showcased in schools, despite our region relying on STEM and marine industries for economic and employment reasons.

“TECH:TRUCK allows people of all ages to learn about this and consider a new career path. The initiative provides a hugely exciting opportunity and it’s something I wish I could have experienced myself growing up.”
