Advanced Learner Loans are similar to Higher Education loans. These loans are available to students aged 19 and over, studying at Level 3 or Level 4, including QCF Certificates and Diplomas and Access to HE Courses.

Do I qualify? 

To qualify you must be:  

  • Aged 19 or over on the first day of your course (there’s no upper age-limit) 
  • Living in the UK on the first day of your course and have lived in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man for 3 years immediately before this
  • Studying with a college or training organisation in England approved for public funding
  • Enrolling on an eligible course at level 3 and above which includes: A levels, Access to HE Diplomas, other Diplomas and Certificates

If you make the decision to take an Advanced Learner Loan, then you can apply either online here or via a paper-based application. You can print this paper application off from the website or obtain it from Student Central.

It’s important you consider your own circumstances and look into all options for paying for your course before choosing to take out a loan. You can get independent financial advice from the Money Advice Service at www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk

Which courses are eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan?

Depending on your age and circumstances, most Level 3/4 courses are eligible but please check with our advice team before applying.
