At Highbury you can develop the essential knowledge and skills you need for a successful career in the leisure industry, including fitness instruction, coaching, personal training and leisure management.
On all courses you will improve your own sporting techniques and may gain additional skills in event volunteering, coaching and sports leadership.
Our programmes include physical fitness, sports training and anatomy. You’ll also develop employability and enterprise skills.
You’ll be working in our Sports Centre, which includes a fitness gym and sports hall, you’ll have full use of our outstanding sports facilities and be able to choose from a range of activities including football, badminton, netball, basketball and watersports.
The theory-based training taking place in classrooms equipped with the latest e-learning facilities. And there will be visits to a variety of indoor and outdoor leisure centres and sports venues.
Courses will also include work experience, volunteering and the possibility of a residential trip abroad, as well as the chance to take part in and organise sports events and enter regional and national competitions.
Our highly experienced lecturers have extensive experience in the fitness, sport and leisure industries and excellent links with local employers.
Career options include working as a sports development officer, PE teacher, coach, personal trainer, sports therapist or lifeguard, or working in a gym or leisure centre. As a personal trainer or sports therapist, your earning potential is up to £40,000 (starting at around £12,000), while PE teachers earn around £21,000-£39,000 and sports coaches £12,000-£25,000.
