Level 1 Resolve (ESOL)

For those aged 16-19 with English as a second language who wish to progress on to an adult ESOL course or vocational programme. Resolve is a preparation course that aims to engage and assist students to develop the essential attitude and English language skills needed to progress to a vocational college course or an apprenticeship.

Units include:

  • ESOL Skills for Life qualification in reading, writing, speaking and listening
  • Functional Skills or GCSE in maths
  • employability skills
  • real-life work experience.

You will have the opportunity to attend enrichment sessions and take part in vocationally- based projects. You will also contribute to the planning and delivery of fundraising events, enjoy regular professional visits and take part in real-life work experience, giving you the extra skills and knowledge needed in your chosen field.

No formal entry requirements are required, although realistic learning targets would need to be agreed.

To give you the best possible chance of successfully completing your qualification, 100% attendance is expected for the duration of the course. English, maths, work experience, tutorials and employability sessions all form part of the overall qualification and non-attendance to any of these sessions may result in the overall qualification not being achieved. Continued non-attendance to any timetabled sessions may result in losing your place on the course.

This course combines both theory and practical sessions and you will be assessed in a variety of ways (activity, group work, photographic and video) which will be presented through a portfolio of evidence.

All our courses are planned around your individual learning needs, with a timetable that clearly identifies the sessions that will be taught. You will be assigned a Programme Lead who will support you throughout your time in College. Teaching staff will work closely with you to help you achieve planned learning goals. Our staff are experienced at delivering classes to meet your needs and will work with you to build your confidence and skills. Our learning centres are equipped with modern resources that will support you to achieve positive outcomes.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.

You could consider the next step in your educational journey with one of our Level 2 Awards that will further enable your progression to a higher-level course or an apprenticeship.
