This qualification covers a range of complex accounting tasks. You will learn and master financial processes, including accounting principles and concepts, advanced bookkeeping, final accounts, VAT issues in business, management accounting costing techniques and ethical practices for accountants. You will also gain software skills through spreadsheet training for accounting.

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded an AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting. This internationally recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification enables those working in accounting or those who looking to pursue accountancy as a career to gain knowledge, practical experience and the all-important certification often sought by employers.

It includes the required study books and membership to the AAT.

Units include:

  • financial accounting: preparing financial statements
  • management accounting techniques
  • spreadsheets for management accounting
  • business awareness
  • tax processes for businesses.

Each unit is assessed separately with computer based assessments throughout the year.

To join this course, you will need good grades in English language and maths. The Foundation Certificate in Accounting is advantageous but not essential.

You will be required to have an interview and be able to show a strong interest in accountancy.

Due to the professional nature of this qualification, there are strict terms and conditions of membership to the AAT, particular regarding criminal convictions. Without membership, you will not be able to take your assessments.

You will be expected to attend weekly classes for the duration of the course during term-time. This will include regular meetings with your tutor to discuss progress and ensure timely completion of all elements of the course.

You will be expected to take responsibility for studying for the exams and completing and submitting any assessed work on a timely basis.

On campus lessons are 6.00pm-9.00pm, evenings tbc.

You will be taught by qualified, experienced tutors, using a range of resources, including textbooks, presentations, demonstrations, practical tasks, and eLearning. You will also be expected to complete independent study for about six hours per week.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.

The skills and knowledge you will gain throughout this qualification will qualify you for roles including finance officer, assistant accountant and bookkeeper. You will also be eligible for AAT Bookkeeper (AATQB) status, giving you the option to work as a freelance bookkeeper.

You can also progress to the Level 4 AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting.
