Level 1 Pathway to Health & Social Care

For those aged 16-19 who have a general interest in health and social care and wish to develop their maths and English levels to access higher vocationally related courses.

Units may include:

•  job opportunities
•  the importance of healthy eating and drinking
•  equality and inclusion
•  principles and values
•  introduction to mental health
•  awareness of protection and safeguarding.

You will have the opportunity to attend enrichment sessions and take part in vocationally based projects. You will contribute to the planning and delivery of fundraising events, enjoy regular vocationally relevant professional visits and take part in real-life work experience. There is also recognition and awards for good attendance and a committed attitude including end of term trips, film nights and bowling.

There are no formal entry requirements, although a keen interest in health and social care, combined with a desire to improve your maths and English, is essential.

100% attendance is expected for the duration of the course. English, maths, work experience, tutorials and employability sessions form part of the overall qualification and non-attendance to any of these sessions may result in the overall qualification not being achieved. Continued non-attendance to any timetabled sessions may result in losing your place on the course.

You will develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that you will need to progress to positive destinations. You will be assessed through a variety of ways (activity, group work, photographic and video), which will be presented through a portfolio of evidence. You will have weekly tutorials and receive regular feedback to discuss your progress.

All our courses are planned around your individual learning needs, with a timetable that clearly identifies the sessions that will be taught. You will be assigned a tutor who will support you throughout your time in college. Teaching staff will work closely with you to help you achieve planned learning goals. Our staff are experienced at delivering classes to meet your needs and will work with you to build your confidence and skills. Our learning centres are equipped with modern resources that will support you to achieve positive outcomes.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.

This course is the perfect stepping stone to further education, enabling progression into further vocational courses, traineeships or an apprenticeship. In the final term, you will have an opportunity to study towards a Level 2 qualification that will further enable your progression.
