This course is for those aged 16 to 19 who have a general interest in childcare and wish to develop their maths and English levels to access higher vocationally-related courses.
100% attendance is expected for the duration of the course. English, maths, work experience, tutorials and employability sessions all form part of the overall qualification and non-attendance to any of these sessions may result in the overall qualification not being achieved. Continued non-attendance to any timetabled sessions may result in losing your place on the course.
Whilst on the programme you will develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that you will need to progress into positive destinations. You will be assessed through a variety of ways (activity, group work, photographic and video) which will be presented through a portfolio of evidence. As a student on the Study Programme, you will have weekly tutorials and receive regular feedback to discuss your progress. All of our programmes are planned around your individual learning needs, with every student having a timetable that clearly identifies the sessions that will be taught. You will be assigned a tutor who will support you throughout your time in College. Teaching staff will work closely with you to help you achieve planned learning goals. Our staff are experienced at delivering classes to meet your needs and will work with you to build your confidence and skills. Our Learning Centres are equipped with modern resources that will support you to be able to achieve positive outcomes and be able to achieve the course qualification. The Pathway to Early Years Study Programme is delivered at our Highbury College Campus.
You will be working towards specific Functional Skills or GCSE qualifications in English and maths alongside an OCN London Level 1 Award in Professions in Early Years, followed by a Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Professions in Early Years. In the final term, you will be working towards a Level 2 Award in Awareness of Mental Health and Wellbeing that will support your future progression onto further learning or employment within a variety of industries.
There are no formal entry requirements, although a keen interest in childcare combined with a desire to improve your maths and English levels is essential. Realistic learning targets would need to be agreed. Acceptance on to this programme is subject to interview and initial assessment processes.
This course is the perfect stepping stone to further education and enables progression into further vocational courses, traineeships or an apprenticeship. In the final term of this course, you will have an opportunity to study towards a vocationally relevant Level 2 course that will further enable your progression to a higher-level course.
