Alex said: “I have had the best four years in Netley and love how my business has developed. However, it is time for a change so I can develop my business further. I cannot wait to transform this beautiful shop into a gorgeous bespoke cake, catering and takeaway patisserie store.”

Soon After completing her Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery at Highbury College in 2011 with flying colours, Alex was offered a summer internship at Michelin-starred restaurant L’Ortolan.

The pastry professional said: “Spending the summer being in a Michelin-starred environment really created a true passion for catering, especially patisserie. I was lucky enough to be offered the summer internship because of the experience I gained at College.

“I loved studying catering at Highbury College. The tutors were fantastic and had varied backgrounds, meaning they could teach you different skills to prepare you for the real world. I went on to work with one the best wedding designers in the UK, he told me the reason I was a successful candidate, was due to the fact I had the qualifications and experience necessary for the industry.”

After completing a further specialised patisserie course, the entrepreneur started her own business in 2012 and was soon supplying regional coffee shops with cakes and sweet treats. Two years later, Alex began running her business from home full time until she expanded and opened her first shop in Netley in 2016.

Her advice to anyone looking to start a within the industry is that catering is a commitment, adding: “You have to truly love what you do and be passionate about food to make it as a chef. It is a tough career but well worth it.”

Professional Catering Tutor Chris Cook said: “It’s great to hear that Alex has done so well after finishing her course with us at Highbury. Many of our past students have gone on to accomplish amazing things within the industry. Alex’s continued success is proof of that and I’m glad that we were able to help kick start her culinary career. Well done Alex and all the best in setting up your new shop in Southsea!”
