Highbury College has teamed up with the Motivational Preparation College for Training (MPCT) to inspire 16 to 19-year-olds to develop their fitness, improve their skills and prepare for them future employment.

MPCT students joined their peers at Highbury College soon after MPCT celebrated its 21st anniversary.

As part of the new partnership, the award-winning Ofsted outstanding training organisation moved its Military Preparation College, Portsmouth branch so that is now based within the College’s main campus in Cosham, giving MPCT recruits access to the on-site Sports Centre and training facilities.

MPCT courses are designed to prepare young people for their next steps with employability skills, functional skills maths and English and up to a Level 2 qualification in physical fitness. Now with more than 30 locations across England and Wales, MPCT has helped more than 20,000 school leavers gain the skills they need for a successful civilian or military career.

For many years, Highbury College’s strong ties with the military have helped shape its Public Services courses and in 2018 signed the Armed Forces Covenant to be recognised as a forces friendly employer.

Penny Wycherley, Interim Principal and CEO of Highbury College said: "We are delighted to partner with MPCT and welcome them to their new Portsmouth hub. We’re really looking forward to sharing our resources with MPCT to help and support their students so that they can reach their full potential, as well as the opportunity to further strengthen our bond with the armed forces and the wider community as a whole."

Huw Lewis MBE, Founder and CEO of the MPCT, said: "Beginning with our first Military Preparation College in 1999, we have gone from strength to strength, and to date over 20,000 learners have benefitted from what our colleges have to offer. MPCT is a special place for many and is the backdrop of so many amazing memories for staff and learners alike. For me, being at the helm of MPCT for 21 years has been an incredible adventure and a very important part of my life and I am looking forward to see what the future holds for The Motivational Preparation College for Training."
