Overall, Highbury’s culinary students triumphed with one gold, two silvers, four bronzes and five merits at the Wessex Salon Culinaire 2019 on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th May.
They took on several challenges including fine dining BBQ, street food, sandwich, bakery skills, fish filleting and vegetable cuts.
In association with The Craft Guild of Chefs, the annual event, held at Brockenhurst College, allows student chefs to get a first taste of competition experience.
Catering Lecturer Matt Sussex said: “Our students have always relished showcasing their abilities at the Wessex Salon Culinaire. Live competitions are an excellent opportunity for our students, and they all put in a good effort and worked really hard. They really enjoy challenging themselves and testing their skills against students from across the country.”
For competitors who reached certain standards, awards were given out including a Gold Award, Silver Award, Bronze Award and Certificate of Merit.
