Josh, who is studying a Level 4 HNC Advanced Manufacturing (Electrical/Electronic) Apprenticeship with an HND top-up, was presented the award on Monday 13th May.
Of his award, Josh said: “It shows all my hard work has paid off. I’ve put in a lot of effort over the last five years and it’s nice to know it’s been noticed. Thanks to the College for all their help, including lecturers past and present, and those who continue to support me.
For his hard work, Josh was also gifted a cash prize of £100 from the local IET network.
Peter Bennison, Chairman of the RMS of the IET Solent region, said: “Josh had a superb recommendation and I’m sure he will enjoy the fruits of his labour. I think it’s really wonderful, certainly he has attained very high academic results and he has a fantastic attitude. That to me is one of the most important things that anyone could have. If you can maintain that then that’s the secret to achieve success in life.”
Josh, who is completing his apprenticeship with Surrey Satellite Systems, said he would 100 per cent recommend an apprenticeship to everyone, saying: “I knew I didn’t want to go to university, and with apprenticeships, there’s not as much onus on exams, which I personally have struggled with sitting in the past. Coursework-based assessments and less formal exams are far easier for me to manage and approach. It’s definitely one of the best things I’ve ever done and I couldn’t have imagined progressing my career in any other way.
He added: “Highbury has made sure they’ve given me the means to get the best grades I could, and I can’t thank them enough for all their support throughout the last five years. They’ve been incredible.
“My employers have also helped me to no end. They’ve offered me loads of opportunities to apply my learning within the workplace. They’ve helped me with any issues and the support has been overwhelming.”
Principal of Highbury College Stella Mbubaegbu CBE said: “I want to congratulate Josh who is an exemplary apprentice. We’re very proud of him and what he has accomplished. Well done!”
