Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing students kicked off the competition with a Bohemian theme. Next up, Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques and Level 2 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing students were given the task of creating Bright & Pride looks, while Level 3 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing students showed off their interpretation of Risky Rio styles. External judges included former Highbury College apprentice and owner of hair salon The Parlour Jess Davey and freelance make-up artist Lucy Horsman.
Team Leader of Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Lyndsey McKenna said: "I'm so proud of all our students. They've worked really hard and there have been some really creative and wonderful results. Well done to everybody and congratulations to the winners."
Judge of the hairdressing heats Jess said: “I’m looking for new talent and inspiration. I think competitions like these are really good fun for the students and get them involved in different experiences other than standard cuts and blow-dries. They encourage students to think outside the box and do something different. It went really well, everybody’s made such a great effort.”
Judge of the beauty therapy heat Lucy said: “Competitions are very important because when I was a student I really wanted to do session styling and competitions, and Highbury’s really good for giving students those sorts of opportunities.”
Winners of the competition will be recreating their award-winning looks at this year’s Creative Showcase.
