The new Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Lee Mason, will be looking his best with help from Highbury ahead of a very special visit.

Alongside his mother Sylvia Mason as Lord Mayoress, the duo stopped off at Eden Salons to have their hair cut in time for The Queen's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

The councillor said: “I came here a lot when I was a student and a number of times since then. I'm going to Buckingham Palace for the Garden Party so I've got to look my best. The quality level here is high and the students who train here always try to do their very best and that does show.”

Cllr Mason is a former Highbury College student and in the past has completed Level 2 and 3 catering courses.

He said that it was important to support local students, adding: “I know when I was a student here that it was really useful to get that kind of work-based experience. A friend of mine at the time was doing hairdressing, and he was always getting me to come down here to get my hair cut and bleached. But now I’m Lord Mayor, I’ve got to have a bit more decorum!”
