Floristry students were honoured after the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth’s office commissioned floral arrangements for this year’s mayor-making ceremony.

The new Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Councillor Lee Mason was formally elected at the annual meeting of Portsmouth City Council.

The event gave Highbury College’s floristry students real-world experience as professional florists.

Additionally, it gave them the opportunity to test their creativity while working towards a deadline of a significant public event.

Of the mayor-making ceremony Cllr Lee Mason thanked organisers and supporters, including the floristry students.

He said: "Absolutely memorable day, so tired at end of it. Amazing help from so many amazing people. Thanks to the amazing Lord Mayor's staff...along with the Guildhall staff, especially for setting up. Thanks to the... Highbury College students who did the flower arrangements."
