A Highbury College construction apprentice is now set to take on a national competition after winning first place in a regional bricklaying contest.

Travis Pay was crowned winner of the senior category in the Guild of Bricklayers Southern Regional Craft Competition, which was held at the College’s Northarbour site on Wednesday 18th April 2018.

The Level 2 bricklaying apprentice said: “It feels great to win first place, I was quite surprised. It’s the first competition I’ve ever done and it’s nice to see my apprenticeship is paying off. My tutors are friendly and really care about what we’re doing; they’re supportive, knowledgeable and helpful"

The 20-year-old will now be preparing to take part in the Guild National Final Competition in June.

Level 2 student Abbey Blackman also took part in the junior category of the contest.
