Drift IT Services provides IT and AV support to primary and secondary schools across the UK. Since 2005, the company has employed fourteen apprentices, nurturing their talent and equipping them with skills needed to thrive in the IT industry.

Apprenticeship Success at Drift IT

Directors Peter Shone and Peter Morgan are passionate about education and since choosing Highbury College as their apprenticeship provider haven’t looked back.

Peter Shone said: “We’ve loved working with Highbury College as the training structure is perfect for both our business and the apprentice. It’s great that for each module of training our apprentice is taken out of the office and can study either at Highbury College or at home to get their assignments completed. This means the apprentice has the time and space to concentrate on their studies and achieve that all important qualification.

“We’ve employed people of all ages and feel the apprentice route is an incredibly important and undervalued pathway to higher education and onwards to a hugely successful career in IT.

“The feedback we’ve received about this particular cohort has been especially encouraging. Our schools are delighted with the service that the apprentices are delivering.”

Drift IT Services have recruited apprentices from a variety of backgrounds and value the diverse skills gained from seemingly unrelated experience. Accredited by City & Guilds and endorsed by The Tech Partnership, the UK’s sector skills council for IT, apprentices gain two full Level 3 Apprenticeship Diplomas as well as vendor certifications from CompTIA and Microsoft.

After completing his apprenticeship 2017, Kieran Oxford was promoted to become Helpdesk Technician. Kieran said: “I was attracted to the apprenticeship at Drift IT as it combined the qualifications needed in this competitive industry, with the support and up-to-date knowledge of my colleagues back in the office.”

Current apprentice Lois Rogers commented: “I love learning, so after finishing College an apprenticeship seemed like the perfect job. When I started, I was really thrown in the deep end which was awesome as I learnt so much, so quickly. The rest of the team really supported me and I hope to continue with Drift IT after my apprenticeship has finished.”

The partnership between Highbury College and Drift IT Services is set to continue, turning problem-solvers into skilled PC engineers, network technicians and IT support gurus.
