Level 3 BTEC National Foundation Diploma in Sport in Partnership with Portsmouth Football Club

Designed for aspiring footballers, male and female, aged 16-18, the course enables you to continue your academic studies while training and competing in a professional football environment. You will develop your practical football abilities preparing you to play at the highest possible level.

Units include:

  • anatomy and physiology
  • professional development in the sports industry
  • fitness training and programming for health, sport and wellbeing
  • sports leadership
  • sports psychology
  • application of fitness testing practical sports performance.

You will have the opportunity to travel on our international football tour to Memphis and further national enrichment and academic trips. You will engage in weekly training sessions, match analysis and conditioning sessions. You will also compete in competitive fixtures against other professional clubs in either the National Football Youth League or EFL Community and Education Football Alliance League.

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including maths and English. All applicants will need to undergo a football trial.

Five days per week. The course will be predominantly located at Pompey in the Community (near Fratton Park) with the possibility of one day per week at Highbury Campus.

You will be required to complete a range of assessment methods including and not limited to written assignments, verbal presentations and practical demonstrations.

You will be taught in a supportive and inclusive environment. All coaches are FA and UEFA qualified and hold enhanced DBS, emergency first aid and safeguarding certificates.

You will also have the opportunity to gain vital work experience with Pompey in the Community.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.

You could progress to a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.
