This course is aimed at 16–19 year olds who have a keen interest in working in the automotive industry, as an introduction to that world.
Units include:
The course is divided between theory sessions and practical sessions in a workshop. You will be working on light vehicles. learning the various systems and how to remove, assess and refit assemblies.
Students also benefit from 24/7 access to our online resources LJ Create and Vehicle Visuals.
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including English.
A minimum of 95% attendance rate is needed on this course.
Some units within this route are additional units, which allows the learner to develop knowledge not only in light vehicles but other means of transport. This course allows students to have the flexibility to develop their knowledge and skills across a variety of specialist areas to prepare them for further studies and potentially enter a job role they desire in the future, and it will include both written and practical tasks. This course also includes online Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) exams.
School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.
You can progress to a Level 2 Diploma in Maintenance and Repair Principles (Light Vehicle) or use this course as a foundation to an apprenticeship.
