We have a fantastic reputation in the catering industry. Our chefs have gone on to work in Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide, including Australia, New Zealand, New York and LA.

You’ll be taught by highly qualified staff and gain hands-on experience in professional training facilities at our City of Portsmouth Centre, including two commercial kitchens, a pastry kitchen, larder kitchen and three specialised training kitchens, with state of-the-art e-learning.

You could also develop your skills in our international kitchen, complete with wok station, tandoori oven and pasta station. The College’s three commercial restaurants provide opportunities for real work experience and the business awareness to succeed.

We also have strong links with industry, and the Royal Navy can offer graduate students a guaranteed interview with Compass National Food service, and help you set up your own business.

Head chefs (chefs de cuisine) can earn up to £30,000. A head chef working in a top city hotel may earn up to £100,000. Opportunities also include restaurant staff and contract catering. Full-time salaries for waiting staff can be around £11,900 to £17,000 a year.
