At Highbury we are committed to the safety of students, and in particular those who are under 18. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) can be reassured that Host Families are carefully selected through our rigorous recruitment process and must undergo a number of health and safety checks prior to hosting students. These include:

  • Enhanced DBS (police) Checks
  • Fire Risk Assessments
  • Gas Safety Checks
  • Safeguarding Training, in addition to adhering to our comprehensive Safeguarding Policy
  • Prevent Training
  • Annual home visits by College staff
  • References are taken to assess hosts suitability to accommodate Under 18 students before they can be confirmed as Highbury Hosts
  • We provide staff and hosts with appropriate support, training and guidance to ensure that they are able to deal with welfare related issues and give a high level of duty of care to Under 18’s.

Hosts also have strict guidelines to adhere to, including to provide healthy and balanced meals, to help your child register with a local GP, and to communicate with staff about any concerns they may have regarding students. Additionally, all homestay hosts sign agreements with us to ensure they are able to provide the additional requirements for students who are under 18 years of age.

Parents will be provided with host family information, including contact details, prior to the student’s arrival at Highbury College. Your child will have his/her own room, with a desk, wardrobe, and access to wi-fi.

Finally, Highbury provide dedicated staff who will monitor your child’s attendance and academic progress and will communicate with parents and guardians.
