Work, Volunteering and Study

Free career-focused training for jobsAt Highbury you can choose from a range of free training courses to support you in returning to work or further study. We also run courses that will help if you'd like to become a volunteer or work in the local community. Courses can be taken at one of our IT Flexi Centres or as taught courses in the community.

A number of short Taster courses are also available to get you started, including Community and Volunteering Tasters and Preparing for Life and Work Tasters.

Our Make it WORK programme offers FREE training for anyone who is unemployed, been made redundant or at risk of redundancy. This work-focussed training can help you get back into work as quickly as possible.

From Advert to Interview - Job Skills Level 1

Cost: FREE. This programme covers Job Search Skills, Creating a CV, Application forms and a range of hints and tips in readiness for job interviews. This programme is 15 hours and can be studied at an IT Flexi Centre or online.

NOCN Entry Level Preparation for Life & Work

Cost: FREE. You can work towards this qualification at one of our IT Flexi Centres or as taught classes in the community. Modules include:

  • Health and safety awareness
  • Career preparation
  • Customer service skills
  • Developing a personal learning programme
  • Developing personal study skills
  • Making choices in pursuit of personal goals
  • Personal budgeting and money management
  • Personal development
  • Skills for employability
  • Induction to College
  • Recognise own skills for personal development

NOCN Entry Level Community Development & Family Learning

Cost: FREE. This course is ideal for anyone who is considering working as a volunteer or who wants to get back into learning or return to work. Each module is a separate course. The course can be taken for two hours a week for five weeks.
