Alice meets fantastic and funny characters as she journeys through the weird world of Wonderland in Highbury Theatre Company's latest production.
'Adventures with Alice' is a unique stage adaption of Lewis Carroll's classic tale. The shows will take place in the Performance Theatre at Highbury Campus on Tuesday 26 June and Wednesday 27 June at 7pm, with a matinee performance on Wednesday 27 June at 1pm.
Highbury Theatre Company is an inclusive theatre company that welcomes students from a diversity of backgrounds, ages and abilities, including students with learning difficulties and disabilities from the Independent Living and Work Skills (ILWS) department.
Sam Shaw, 17, a Level 3 BTEC Performing Arts student, is playing the Mad Hatter: "In Alice there are so many different parts it means everyone can get involved."
Sharron Wearn, 17, is also on the Performing Arts course and is playing the title role. "It's something a bit different from our usual BTEC course where we are assessed in every class. Here you can go your own way with it, have a bit of fun and not worry about grades. In the Highbury Theatre Company you also get to meet all kinds of new people."
The students are valued equally in the breadth of their contributions and engage in every part of the production process including choreography, prop-making and script devising.
Peter Greenyer is an ILWS student: "I'm playing a knight in this play. I enjoy the theatre company because I like acting and I’d like to be famous one day. It’s also good exercise and very active."
The company members are from a range of college disciplines and rehearse every Wednesday afternoon from 1pm to 3.30pm. Anyone interested in becoming a member of Highbury Theatre Company in the new academic year should contact the Artistic Director, Feleena Elkington at feleena.elkington@highbury.ac.uk.
