Holidays
You’ll appreciate Highbury’s generous leave entitlements of up to 45 days per annum for lecturing staff (up to 25 days for support staff, increasing with service), as well as benefiting from the flexibility the College offers as an employer.
Pensions
The College operates two pension schemes. The Hampshire County Council (Local Government Pension) scheme is available to all employees in a support function. The Teachers Pension Scheme is for all lecturing employees and operates nationwide. Employee contributions are dependant upon the employee’s salary and are an average 6.5%, with employer contributions set at around 16%. They are highly regarded with pensions based on final salary contributions and generous ill health, early retirement and death in service benefits. More information can be found at: www.teacherspensions.co.uk or www3.hants.gov.uk/pensions.htm
Special leave and flexible working
Situations inevitably arise where employees need time away from work. Special leave may include bereavement, emergency time off for dependants or time off for public duties. Highbury College has provision for special leave that covers many of these eventualities. In addition, all employees have the opportunity to apply for flexible working, which may be of particular interest to those who have children or other caring responsibilities.
Business expenses
Expenses of 40p per mile for cars or 20p per mile for cyclists can be claimed for journeys undertaken for business reasons (in line with the College Travel and Subsistence Policy).
Golden hello for new teachers
The government offers the opportunity to claim a one-off payment of up to £4,000 for new teachers (£5,000 for teachers who teach pure maths, science or construction). Lecturers that are new to teaching and have gained or are studying for a teaching qualification can claim their golden hello in their second year of service.
