Soccer PM to launch Highbury Sports Academy

Highbury College will be encouraging sporting young people to raise their game when they launch their new Sports Academy, in partnership with Portsmouth Football Club.

A Highbury 'Soccer PM', inspired by football-mad television show Soccer AM, is being held to celebrate the new Academy and the wide range of sport-focused programmes and development opportunities it offers.

The event on Thursday July 29 at the Highbury Campus will give aspiring sport stars a chance to put their questions to Portsmouth Football Club players as part of an entertaining on-stage interview.

Promising young players will also want to put their best foot forward for an outside winner-stays-on football tournament with Pompey Academy manager Paul Smalley present and on the lookout for potential talents to sign up.

The College is hoping an exciting line-up of skill competitions, indoor basketball and netball coaching sessions, music and refreshments will help to it to raise the profile of the new opportunities the Academy can now offer.

Sports provision at the College will be expanding to include Sports Leadership, Customer Service and First Aid, in addition to its current range of programmes such as Sport and Leisure and Sport and Fitness, and the new Academy will see the College continuing its work with local sports clubs.

The afternoon's activities will run from 1pm until 3.30pm. For more information about this event or the Highbury College Sports Academy, please call (023) 9238 3131 or visit www.highbury.ac.uk.
