Student designs take to the catwalk

It was Desire by name and desire by design for Highbury College's end of year fashion show.

From classic conceptual creations to stunning avant garde attire, the student designers presented their hard work to a packed-out audience at the Pyramids Centre in Southsea.

Highlights of the night included Suzanne Jones' 'Steam Punk' collection, which reflected a bold Victorian influence and some interesting mechanical elements and Hayley Jeffrey's 'Bring me Flowers', inspired by the 1960s and Psychedelia.

Briar-Rose Kelleher's 'Meow Meow' collection, a decadent body of work with gothic and religious imagery, was awarded Best in Show by the judging panel.

Briar-Rose said: "I'm ecstatic- I cried a lot! I quit my Saturday job to devote myself to the collection so I'm really happy it paid off."

Peter Moutray, head of Media, Arts and Science at Highbury, said: "I thought it was very impressive and a reflection of a lot of hard work put in by both staff and students. It was a fantastic finale to their course."
