Fashion students to strut Guildhall Square

Portsmouth City Council has teamed up with Highbury College fashion students and independent local retailers to organise a free outdoor fashion show.

Students from Highbury College have designed and made a number of exciting creative pieces to display on a catwalk in front of the general public.

The young designers are from various fashion programmes at the College including the Fashion and Clothing National Certificate and the Fashion and Clothing National Diploma. Many of them will be heading off to university in September to continue to study in various fashion pathways.

Penny Clifford, programme leader for fashion design at Highbury College, said: “This will be a great opportunity for the students to showcase the fresh and imaginative work they have been putting together over the last year, as well as a chance to work with local retail stores and gain valuable experience. It is something they are certainly looking forward too.”

Councillor Lee Hunt, responsible for culture, leisure and sport at Portsmouth City Council, said: "The fashion show will raise the aspirations of those taking part as well as the profile of the creative talent in the city."

The show takes place on Friday 4 June between 12 and 2pm in Guildhall Square.
